Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) is one of the country’s longest-running automotive manufacturers. Today, Mitsubishi Motors maintains over 50 dealerships in the Philippines. The company is headquartered in Santa Rosa City, Laguna where it also operates a vehicle assembly plant, producing units like the Mitsubishi Mirage and Mirage G4 subcompacts.
MMPC operations began on May 5, 1964, with the formerly Chrysler Philippines Corporation. Fast forward to today, MMPC prides itself as one of the country’s most competitive automotive manufacturers, excelling great figures in most of the country’s automotive industry categories.
The long-standing brand in the Philippines has several best-sellers in key segments, these include the Mitsubishi Mirage and Mirage G4 hatchback and sedan, the Xpander small MPV, the Montero Sport midsize SUV, the Strada midsize pickup, the full-size Pajero SUV, and the L300 commercial vehicle.
In 2019, a new Montero Sport was launched with an updated front fascia, new gauge cluster and revised rear. The Mitsubishi L300 was also updated this year and features a new engine that is still diesel and now Euro 4-compliant.
The Mitsubishi Lancer and its crossover counterpart, the ASX were both discontinued by the brand in order to focus on the better-selling models in the lineup.
The brand puts two letters together to form the basis of its variant naming scheme, the letters G and L, which designates the base model in the lineup. This set of characters is then followed by an X for affordable variants, S for mid-tier variants, and the L is dropped in favor of a T for high-end variants. In summation, the hierarchy is as follows: GL, GLX, GLS, GT.
