The Kia Seltos is Kia’s latest vehicle and the Korean brand’s entry into the subcompact crossover segment in the Philippines. It features a busy fascia with several sporty accents to go with the crossover’s outdoor-stricken appeal. The name Seltos is derived from the name Celtos, which was the son of Hercules in Greek mythology.
Launched in India on June 2019, the Seltos shares its platform with the Hyundai Kona and as such, is aimed to be a global model for Kia. The top-spec Kia Seltos in the Philippines is equipped with LED lights, including headlights, daytime running lights, fog lights, and taillights, along with a contrasting roof color to complete the aesthetic package.
By size, the Seltos is as wide as the Kona but the Kia crossover is longer and lower by at least 170mm while the wheelbase is also a tad longer at 2,610mm. With that, the Seltos has huge cabin space to allow a trunk volume of 433L with the rear backrests up. Other interior features you’ll find inside the Seltos include fabric-trimmed leather seats, push-button ignition, foldable rear seats, and an 8-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Kia Seltos was launched in the Philippines on November 6, 2019 with three variants to choose from: the base LX, the mid-level EX, and the top-trim SX.
The Kia Seltos is a five-seater, five-door subcompact crossover that has a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. It has a McPherson strut and coil-spring suspension setup up front while the rear end gets a coupled torsion beam axle with coil spring. It’s equipped with disc brakes on all four wheels.
All Kia Seltos variants are equipped with a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The number of convenient features varies per variant, but the top-level choice comes with keyless entry, cruise control, automatic climate control, a full LED lighting affair, reverse camera, rear parking sensors, and front proximity sensors.
All variants of the Kia Seltos gets an 8-inch floating infotainment system to crown its tech features inside the car.
As with the rest of the Kia lineup, the Seltos has a huge tiger-nose grille that flanks both side-swept headlights, highlighted by a pair of sharp daytime running lights. The subcompact crossover also comes with faux-silver accents on the front bumper while the top-spec Seltos gets LED fog lamps to complete the busy fascia.
The Seltos sits on 17-inch wheels, which is standard across the range. The sporty appeal of the crossover comes from the array of black under claddings that outline the shape of the vehicle. At the rear, the Seltos comes with a two-tier LED taillights and garnished with a skid plate and blocked-out chrome exhaust finishers.
Inside, the Seltos is as youthful as its exterior design. The materials used are soft to the eyes plus controls are clustered nicely for easy familiarization. The floating infotainment system is nice highlight to the cabin’s dark gray theme while piano black plastics are used to underline some parts of the interior layout.
The rear cabin of the Seltos is enough to accommodate the average-sized Filipino. The trunk, however, is supersized at 433L with the backrests upright, and doubles when folded down.
